Cactus Secret Vol 1 Nana Haruta Books
As a teen, I really loved Cactus's Secret and I'm already anticipating volume 2's release! It's a traditional shojo manga. Usually those bore me, but this one was different. First of all, the artwork was really good. The storyline had some cliches, but it kept me interested by the developed main character and (cute!) male lead. At times the story was incredibly silly and downright hilarious... Altogether it's a cute, uplifting manga. It's pretty much what you'd expect it to be. I definitely recommend it.

Cactus Secret Vol 1 Nana Haruta Books Reviews
This Cactus's Secret manga series is so FUNNY! I think it should be ages 10 plus! If you think Cactus's Secret is for teens, it's not! There are NO bad words only the D word sometimes, but nothing else. They portray the female main characters appropriately, except they show her in the bath tub, JUST the head, arms, and legs - NOTHING else. So buy this on , a really good book!
I read this manga quite some time ago and just rediscovered it at my local library. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed this first installment in a new shojo series.
Summary
The main character is a high school girl named Miku. She has been in love with the same boy (Kyohei) for two years, since they met in Middle School. Well Miku has changed and is ready to tell Kyohei how she feels, but things do not go well. Before she can get out the confession he makes fun of her makeup and things go down hill from there. The rest of the volume is about Miku's attempts to tell Kyohei how she feels.
Overall I really like this first volume because Kyohei's obliviousness is quite hysterical at times. I also really like Miku's persistence and her prickly nature (see title of series). I look forward to discovering other volumes in this series and finding out what happens with Miku and Kyohei.
~3.5/5
(This review is for the whole series.)
It doesn’t seem like this series was a very big hit, but I enjoyed it. I like Haruto’s artstyle and storytelling; it wasn’t an outstanding shojo series, but it was an enjoyable one nonetheless.
There’s drama and fighting and making up and fighting again. The couple doesn’t wait until the very end to get together, which I liked, and it has a very nice ending. The humor worked for me, and the drama wasn’t melodramatic or too over-the-top.
There were extras at the end, some about side-characters that I enjoyed, and a cute one-shot.
I guess I just wanted to put my voice out there that this wasn’t that bad a series, and I enjoyed it. I thought it was cute, and I’m glad I finally finished it.

This checked off a lot of the things I dislike in shoujo manga rude and obnoxious girl always beating on the guy, dense and clueless romantic interest, and a plot solely based around 'big misunderstandings'. Honestly, it's lazy writing and without an ounce of charm.
Story Miku was a shy and bland girl who developed a crush on a boy named Fujioka in middle school. By high school, she dyed her hair, learned to wear cute clothes and makeup, and was prepared to catch his attention. Unfortunately, he keeps misunderstanding her advances and so she keeps hitting him. Will she ever be able to convey her feelings to the hot Fujioka?
Miku was very shallow and honestly written to be pretty stupid. All she cares about are appearances so I found it hard to really get into her characters. Actually, admittedly, I thought the boy should continue to ignore her. The story skews very young.
Fujioka, meanwhile, is the clueless but happy-go-lucky hot guy in class who keeps misunderstanding all of Miku's advances. Fortunately, they get to sit next to each other so there are plenty of opportunities for Miku to scheme to get his attention. There's some backstory about Fujioka being a bit of a rebel and bad boy in the past but for completely unknown reasons, Miku didn't know that. Clearly, the plot wasn't well thought out that a girl gets a super crush on a guy and changes her whole life for him - but only just remembers that he used to dye his hair and hang out with rough types. Yeah.....
There is an attempt at humor in there but watching Miku beat up on Fujioka for misunderstanding her got old fast. Of course, Miku also misunderstands situations and we're supposed to find her stupidity endearing, I guess. I didn't.
As a teen, I really loved Cactus's Secret and I'm already anticipating volume 2's release!
