I am loving this series! Even though you know who the kidnapper is (if you read book one), all is not what it seems. I really did not expect as many twists and turns as I encountered in this story. Maggie and Jake are still working with the FBI to find Senator Thebes's kidnapped daughter before her insulin dependence puts her life at risk. Not only does Maggie continue to get hassled by her former colleagues, they take it to a whole other level and attempt to undermine her despite possibly disastrous consequences. Even puppy love Paul can't be relied on. Jake is the only person Maggie can count on to back whatever actions she takes. I like that Jake trusts her to be competent at her job and doesn't hover over her waiting for her to need rescuing. He goes where she sends him and even bends a few rules along the way.

As for the chemistry between Maggie and Jake, I love where that went. Finally! The relationship between these two just makes me happy. They seem to fit like two pieces of the same puzzle. I literally can't wait to see what happens next. As with book one, book two ends on a cliffhanger. Thankfully the next book will be out soon. I actually like cliffhangers when they are not too extreme and the author plans ahead enough to release the sequels pretty quickly. I love that I have found a talented new independent author to add to my favorites list.

Tess Diamond picks up Game of Lies straight after where Dangerous Games left off. Maggie and Jake now know who they are going after… or do they? All is definitely not as it seems as they start to dig deeper into the kidnappers motives and it would seem that Senator Thebes may be playing a larger part in the motivation to commit the crime than was initially expected.

I am still really invested in this story which makes me happy, as I have found with previous series where a story has been cut up that there is the potential for the middle novella to be a bit of a ’filler’. So not the case with Game of Lies though, and everything that happens and is ultimately discovered you know is going to have relevance as the latter stages of the story play out.

”Go get ‘em, Goldilocks.”

The attraction between Maggie and Jake reaches boiling point in this one as well, and I loved the way the author played it out between them. Maggie shows Jake a little of her vulnerability and rather than taking advantage of that and using it to get ahead like a lot of the male members of the team would have done, he uses his knowledge to support her in her leadership and the decisions that she makes, a lot of which are not met with enthusiasm by the rest of the group, especially as things take a turn for the worse due to her recommendations being disregarded in the latter stages of this installment.

I cannot wait to see how the author closes out this adventure, with End Game due in early December. Although the stage has been set and the players all named, the climax of the story is still very much a mystery, as I cannot really predict where this one will end.

Let them worry. Let them wait.

IN DANGEROUS GAMES, BK 1, the reader is introduced to Maggie Kincaid and Jake O'Connor. A senator's young daughter has been kidnapped and the FBI has called Maggie in to lead the investigation.

GAME OF LIES takes up where DANGEROUS GAMES left off. The kidnapper has squeezed through the traps and is still has the senator's daughter with him. She is diabetic and needs insulin.

The kidnapper has been identified and is insisting that the Senator knows what he wants and if he doesn't get it, the senator's daughter will pay the price.

Maggie and Jake are racing against the clock to save the little girl's life. And her father would never make Father of the Year. He refuses to help in any way and seemingly would rather protect his seat in legislature than save his daughter from sure death.

The suspense is high-level and stays that way through the entire book. Maggie and Jake are terrific characters, very worthy of having a series.

They have had a strong attraction to each other, and until now they have fought it. She's blaming the stress, he's blaming his good looks.

Twists and turns and red herring abound. And ..... there is a major cliff hanger. I will be hunting down the 3rd in this series, END GAME... pronto!
