The Gardener SA Bodeen Books

The concept in this story is probably one of the most intriguing. I loved how Bodeen gave the entire scientific explanation, background and reasoning for the concept of human autotrophs. The idea was great. The story however I felt was mostly uneventful. I found it easily predictable and while there is some level of adventure wrapped in the story, it doesn't pull you in and make you feel as though you're on the run with the characters. The plot twists were good, but seemed rushed; not giving an adequate time to build up much suspense. You find out his father is the gardener (which I knew pretty early on) and almost as soon as you find that out, you learn he was also the first autotroph (which wasn't much of a shock). I loved the concept, but I wish the story would have been built firmer and with a little more attention to details that would entrance the readers and make them feel a part of the story more so than a bystander.

The Gardener SA Bodeen Books Reviews

It was an amazing book and looking forward to second book .
My grandson, 7th grader, read it for a book report. He told me it was a good book and he enjoyed reading it. He said that it was well written. He likes science fiction type books and liked this one.
I loved this book. I couldn't stop reading, and the ending was great! If you haven't read it, then you absolutely should.
Loved it but stinks dont know what happens after the ending
A well written story with interesting twists. Give yourself some time for it is hard to put down once you start.
Its is hard to empathize with a high school junior. The book seems too streamlined without any deviation or surprise. The big reveal towards the end was laughably predictable and uninspired. Missed opportunity.
I read THE COMPOUND a few months ago by S.A. Bodeen and absolutely loved it. So when I found this book yesterday I had high expectations. I read this book in one day mostly because it was only 256 pages long. I felt very frustrated by the main character Mason. Although he was playing "the hero" part very well I feel that he was very selfish at the same time. He only thought of "the girl" and not himself, his best friend, or his mother. I almost stopped reading because I became angry because he was just too stubborn. Although being stubborn is usually a good thing in the Dystopian books that I read; it just did not settle well with this character. I was happy with the ending because Mason finally listened and did what was right but I did not feel satisfied. In fact I may have not purchased this if I had looked to see how many pages there were and if I had known more about the main character. I looked forward to other books by this author in hopes that she captures what THE COMPOUND had. I would like to give this book 2 1/2 stars because I didn't not like it yet it was less than ok.
