Stir It Up A Novel Ramin Ganeshram Books
As an elementary school teacher and a parent, I loved this book. From the "life recipes" to the real life recipes, this book was filled with love and emotion. Terrific characters and just enough detail to bring Anjali's world to life without boring the reader. This is a story that many kids in the tween set will relate to with the main character being a bit of an outsider at school, having parents that won't listen to her, and having a secret dream. The story subtly teaches children about having confidence in themselves, working hard, following their dreams and, perhaps more importantly, that even though sometimes things don't always work out as planned, you don't give up. Kudos to the author for writing a book that is a breath of fresh air among a wave of graphic novels flooding the market. Hoping that Ms. Ganeshram continues writing!Tags : Amazon.com: Stir It Up: A Novel (9780545165822): Ramin Ganeshram: Books,Ramin Ganeshram,Stir It Up: A Novel,Scholastic Press,0545165822,Cooking & Food,Family - General,People & Places - United States - General,Caribbean Americans,Cooking,Cooking;Fiction.,Families,Family life - New York (State) - New York,Family life;New York (State);New York;Fiction.,Hindus,Queens (New York, N.Y.),Reality television programs,Restaurants,Restaurants;Fiction.,Children's BooksAges 9-12 Fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Family & home stories (Children's Teenage),Family - Multigenerational,Family life,Fiction,JUVENILE FICTION Cooking & Food,JUVENILE FICTION Family General (see also headings under Social Themes),JUVENILE FICTION People & Places General,Juvenile FictionFamily - Multigenerational,New York,New York (State),YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Cooking & Food,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Family General (see also headings under Social Themes),YOUNG ADULT FICTION People & Places United States General
Stir It Up A Novel Ramin Ganeshram Books Reviews
I loved the book sad she should have won the contest and gone to c-cap but other than that I loved it
Such a wonderful, sweet and spicy story, I enjoyed every bite....word. Anjali, so dear a character for young readers to relate to, and for an older reader (such as myself) to be reminded of the genuine desire and honest motivation of her age. And as if a nice story weren't enough, the numerous mouthwatering, easy-to-follow recipes put this book into a category of its own, because though the pages run out, but not the inspiration to bring something new (for my family) to the dinner table.
This is an enjoyable read for anyone who likes food! Good characters, strong relationships, a tough choice with consequences but a satisfying ending. The recipes included with the story sound yummy. I haven't tried any yet but I'm going to! )
Good
We got the mail late last night and were so excited to find the book had arrived. My daughter begged me to read it even though it was past bedtime. We read 2 chapters and already She is in love with Anjali and wants to cook just like her. Truly inspiring book for kids of any age. The description of the smells of the restaurant and the delicious spices had us hooked at page one.
Cute characters but super predictable.
The first time I read this book, I must have rushed through it,and didn't like it. But I recently reread it again, and I actually enjoyed it and take back my last review. Stir it Up is a good story about a girl who learns to follow her dreams of being on food network, despite what her parents want her to do. And, it comes with recipes from the story to try at home.
